Dominika and I have known each other for 7 years, we have been married for 1,5 years.
Dominika is having a very tough time, the PhD project that she has been working on for 3 years is ending. All the friends that she made in this project have moved away. She is under a lot of pressure to finish her thesis in the upcoming 6 weeks. She has not seen her family back in Poland in 7 months. She has feelings of depression and feel very lonely. There is no clear path for the future after the PhD is over, but surely there are choices coming up with regards to moving again for the next employer. She feels that our marriage is not going in the right direction, we are unsure if we want to have children - but if we choose not to have children is our relationship interesting enough to stay happy in the long term? Dominika feels downhearted, that this is not the case and is pessimistic about the future. She also feels alone and unheard with her issues, as I zone out often when she discusses work or her family. I am also forgetful of the things she has said in the past, making her wonder if I even listen and if I care.
For me these issues were a surprise. I want to work very hard to make this right together with her. I also feel that this was a shock that has me very sad and disillusioned about our relationship, and if I can rely on my wife in the future. I love her very much and the thought that our relationship could so suddenly be at risk is giving me some trust issues - this should be more reliable for me to feel at ease.
